Why Your Tone When Writing an Essay is Important
Why Your Tone When Writing an Essay is ImportantThe goal of every writer is to get their point across in a way that makes them look good and there are many factors that can help to accomplish this. This is true of my tone when writing an essay, which helps me to not only write better but to also learn how to effectively write for other people. After completing a research-enabling college level course on grammar and composition it became apparent to me that the ability to be able to write in a manner that made me look good is the key to getting a job. I learned that the right combination of grammar and style is essential to effective communication. My college years were spent learning the skills necessary to have a successful career, and one of the first areas I learned how to do this was through high school. I continued this process at the college level as well. What I learned in high school and in college is that I should always be able to create an effective writing style. While I am a straight shooter and do not pull punches, I realized that I could use my tone when writing an essay to be more effective in delivering my point. By being able to write clearly and concisely I could end up communicating ideas in a manner that made me look good. I still had to make sure that I got my point across, but it would be easier to do that if I was speaking in a manner that made me look good. The importance of being able to create an effective style of writing for a professional reader is a very important part of my approach to teaching writing. There are some people who will tell you that it is okay to speak slowly, but I have found that speaking clearly and concisely creates a level of trust between the reader and the writer. In this way your words are not misinterpreted, and the readers are better able to understand your message. For those of you who have not read previous essays on this topic, my tone when writing an essay has been stated to be too slow and too low. One of the reasons I do this is because I don't want to scare the reader off, and while it may not be easy to write in this way, it is important to make sure that the message that you want to deliver is heard by the reader. In the past I have read an essay that had all of the incorrect punctuation and used two semicolons that were unneeded, which made it so difficult to read. In my experience the overall effect is that the reader is scared away from reading the entire piece, and therefore afraid to listen to the person telling them why they should listen to what you have to say. However, if I were writing an entire essay I wouldn't need to use all of the 'clutter' that I often do, and it would be easier for me to communicate my message with clarity. Having my tone is effective allows me to convey the message quickly and clearly.
